“ I had been wanting to improve the planting at Mansfield College ever since I became the Bursar in 2012. A chance conversation at a party led me to invite Caroline to come up with a planting scheme for an area of our main quad that had been redeveloped as a part of a significant construction project. As a result a large patch of builder-trodden, JCB-compacted mud and clay has been transformed into a warm and satisfying combination of colours, textures, shapes and scents. Caroline’s proposals were considered, thoughtful, imaginative, and entirely in keeping with both our thinking and with the essence of an Oxford College. The result has been much admired, even in the dog days of winter when all new planting battles against the elements and hunkers down to survive.”
